Dentures are a viable option when decay or damage is so severe that tooth restoration isn’t possible. There are now numerous approaches available to providing dentures to patients seeking a way to restore their smile. Denture Options Available At Buckhead Dental Group
There are a variety of styles of dentures available. Each of them is used to address a specific kind of dental need. There are dentures for patients missing only a few teeth as well as dentures for patients missing multiple teeth. We also provide total or complete dentures for those who are missing one or both arches of teeth. Whether you’re replacing one tooth or multiple teeth, there are two basic types of denture:
- Conventional Dentures – This type of denture is provided following the two or three months necessary for a patient’s recovery from extraction. While this time does allow the patient’s gums to heal, they also leave them without functional teeth. They will also experience shrinking of the jawbone and gums during this period. When conventional dentures are placed, there’s less need to return for them to be adjusted in response to this shrinkage.
- Immediate Dentures – These dentures are manufactured before the patient has all of their teeth extracted. Usually, the front teeth are left for esthetic reasons until the denture is made, but posterior (back) teeth are extracted before the denture is finished. When all extractions of remaining teeth are complete, our team will provide them with dentures immediately. However, they will have to return to the dental office to have several adjustments. These adjustments are usually required multiple times over the lifetime of the patient.
Complete dentures are a fantastic way to economically restore the health and appearance of your smile. They allow you to continue enjoying your favorite foods and smile with pride. However, complete dentures aren’t always the best option. Removing healthy teeth is rarely appropriate simply to make a full conversion to complete dentures. For patients with healthy teeth remaining, partial dentures are an option. These dentures secure themselves to the remaining teeth. This provides a more stable mount for the dentures and ensures that healthy teeth are kept as long as possible.
Partial dentures are affixed to a plastic base that is colored to match your gums and palette. An additional metal framework is also necessary for attaching these dentures to your remaining teeth for support. Partial dentures are generally removable, so you can clean them nightly. However, our team may recommend a fixed bridge instead of removable partial dentures when appropriate. Bridges use the teeth neighboring a gap created by a missing tooth as mounting points. These teeth are shaped to accept crowns, and a false tooth is permanently attached between them to serve as a replacement tooth.
